Joan Zhang

Looking for a non-judgmental, genuine, fun  tutor to help you exceed expectations and achieve your goals? Look no further! I know first hand how competitive high schools and colleges can be, and can help you keep your cool in the face of uncertainty and cut-throat competition. I graduated as the valedictorian in my high school class of over 500 students, and received a perfect 2400 on my SAT. I will be a junior at Harvard University, studying Psychology and Computer Science, and spent this summer working at a mental health tech start-up in San Francisco. I absolutely love learning about how computers can compensate for the inefficiencies and disorders of the human mind, and how the human mind can better inform computer learning/artificial intelligence. I am also writing a book with my professor called Straight A's: The Identity Politics of Asian American Academic Achievement, which presents the diverse stories and experiences of Asian Americans at Harvard.

I have extensive experience with teaching PSAT/SAT, and was recruited to write SAT test manuals for a test preparation company while I was still in high school. I've spent hours studying SAT question types and patterns, and am very familiar with all the tips and tricks! I've tutored both high school and college students in Mandarin Chinese, and my students have told me how much they love coming to their sessions because I make learning both challenging and fun! In my free time, I love performing and teaching music (specifically a cappella, flute, and piano), and taught beginner flute classes at the local middle school.

I have been a mentor to numerous high school students during their college application process and continue to mentor college freshmen in their first year transition. I genuinely enjoy helping students find their voice and story in order to empower them to present the best version of themselves.
